George Gilbert was the last keeper of the Buffalo light, from ca. 1870 to his death in 1873. He lived on Evans Street on the Buffalo waterfront. His son Abner was a fisherman and sailor most of his life. From 1876 to 1888 he served on the lighthouse supply boat Haze. From 1888-1889 he was master of the screw-steamer Vision; and from 1889-1891, master of the steamer Pilgrim.
